NCAA Clearinghouse: The National Collegiate Athletic Association {NCAA} is the governing body of the majority of College Sports. The first step towards college sports is registering with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Receiving eligibility to the NCAA Clearinghouse is required in order to participate in NCAA Division I and II sports.

Registering: This can be accomplished online or by obtaining the NCAA Clearinghouse form from a student's school counselor. The Registration fee is a one time fee of $50 for U.S. citizens and $75 for international students.

Qualifying:

Division I:

    * There are 14 core courses that student athletes are required to pass in order to apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse. After August 1, 2008 a student athlete must past 16 core courses in order to apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse.
    * A student athlete must take the SAT and/ or ACT test. The NCAA Clearinghouse will take the best score between both tests.
    * The SAT test scores are based on the math and critical reading sections. The writing section is not used.
    * The ACT scores include the english, math, reading, and science portions of the test.
    * The NCAA Clearinghouse uses a sliding scale that will decide if a student athlete is eligible to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
    * The sliding scale combines a student athletes GPA, SAT and ACT scores to decide if an athlete is eligible. For more information regarding the sliding scale visit the NCAA Clearinghouse web site.

Division II:

    * There are 14 core courses that student athletes are required to pass in order to apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse.
    * A student athlete must take the SAT and/ or ACT test. The NCAA Clearinghouse will take the best score between both tests.
    * Student athletes will need to receive a score of at least an 820 on their SAT test. This includes the critical reading and math sections. The writing portion of the SAT Test will not be used.
    * A minimum score of 68 is required for the ACT Test. This includes the english, math, reading, and science portion of the ACT.
    * The NCAA Clearinghouse does not use the sliding scale for Division II college sports.

Those who fail to qualify will not be eligible to participate in NCAA Division I and II college sports.

Kinda blows that the amount of core classes needed are going to be increased. At the same time this is great to know now so people make sure they have all of the needed class requirements completed.
